YouTube has blocked videos about evasion of military service in Russia, posted on the channels “School of the Conscript,” “Dozor in Volgograd,” and another independent regional media outlet, Agency reports .
The blocking notifications state that the channel's materials violate the federal law "On Information"; for details, the platform refers to Russian registries. On the channel "Dozor v Volgograd" YouTube blocked the videos "How to hide from the military registration and enlistment office (resistance to mobilization: part 3)" and "Dodge correctly" (313 thousand views), and on the channel "School of the conscript" - the video "Criminal charges will help you avoid serving."
The Agency mentioned the news about the blocking of OVD-Info channels and sees a new trend in what is happening and states that YouTube has not previously blocked opposition content at the request of the Russian authorities.
Journalist Andrei Zakharov countered that in 2023, Google complied with more than 50% of all requests from Roskomnadzor to remove content, mostly from YouTube, without disclosing information about how much of this content was political.
- After the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine, Roskomnadzor demanded that the media write about what was happening only with reference to official Russian sources. Journalists were also prohibited from calling the "Russian special operation" an attack, invasion or declaration of war. Otherwise, the supervisory agency threatened blocking and fines of up to five million rubles.
- For reasons of military censorship, Roskomnadzor blocked more than 200 thousand resources, Deputy Head of the agency Vadim Subbotin said on June 9, 2023. According to him, this number also included "materials with calls for mass unauthorized actions and riots." "After the start of the "special military operation," we stepped up efforts to counter the spread of calls for extremism and terrorism, mass riots and "fake" news on the Internet," Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov said earlier in an interview with Kommersant. From January to June 2023, Yandex removed 190,525 links from search at the request of Roskomnadzor. This is 41,161 links more than in the second half of 2022 . In addition, at the request of the supervisory authority, Yandex removes prohibited content from its servers, for example, from Yandex Q or Yandex Music, as well as images, turbo pages, saved copies of pages, etc.
