London police arrest 64-year-old Briton in case of assisting Russian intelligence

London police reported the arrest of 64-year-old Harlow resident Howard Michael Phillips in connection with a case of cooperation with Russian special services.

The arrest itself took place on May 16, and a week later the man was charged with assisting Russian intelligence (Article 3 of the Law on National Security) and was placed into custody.

As part of the case, police officers also conducted searches at two addresses. According to the BBC, the investigation took place in Hertfordshire and Essex. The court later refused to release Phillips on bail. The details of the charges against him are unknown.

In late April, the UK authorities accused two Britons of working for Russian intelligence services: 22-year-old Jake Reeves and 20-year-old Dylan Earl. The police believe that they were involved in a fire at a warehouse in London owned by Ukrainian businessmen. Three other people, whose names and citizenships are unknown, are also involved in the case.
