Putin allowed confiscate the property of the United States in Russia

Vladimir Putin allowed to arrest and confiscate the property of the United States, American citizens, residents, companies working mainly in the American market, and their companies to pay compensation for confiscated Russian assets. The decree is published on the official portal of legal acts.

The decree allows Russian companies and private individuals to appeal to Russian courts with a demand to recognize the seizure of property by decision of courts or state bodies in the United States.

If the Russian court admitted that the confiscation was unreasonable, the special government commission should offer to compensate the assets related to the United States and found in Russia.

Putin’s decree allows you to arrest the property belonging to the United States or American residents and citizens, securities, shares in Russian companies, property rights in Russia.

The document states that it was drawn up in connection with the “unfriendly and contradictory international law” by the US actions against Russia and the Russian Central Bank.

On April 24, US President Joe Biden signed the law adopted by both chambers of the US Congress on the allocation of a new package of military assistance to Ukraine. One of the points of the bill allows you to arrest and confiscate in favor of Ukraine Russian state assets that fall under the jurisdiction of the United States.

In December 2022, the Senate allowed the use of assets that were confiscated from the Russian oligarchs for violation of American legislation to help Ukraine.
