Poland can open the bobbrovniki border crossing (from the Belarusian side of the Berestovitsa) on the border with Belarus. This was stated by the country's Prime Minister Donald Tusk, reports RMF24.
“In the near future, we will consider the possibility of opening the border crossing“ Bobrovniki ”. However, I’ll make a reservation immediately, I will not make such a decision if the military and border guards have a definitely negative opinion that this may have a negative impact on our safety,” Tusk said.
According to the Prime Minister, the opening of the border crossing may be crucial for many entrepreneurs who survive thanks to cross-border trade.
Tusk noted that the decision to open the checkpoint can be made within a few days. At the same time, the Prime Minister emphasized that he was far from gestures towards the Belarusian regime, so the possible opening of the border should not be interpreted in this way.
"I am the last person who would like to make any positive gestures against Belarus. I'm not talking about people, I'm talking about Lukashenko and regime. On the contrary: we are more likely to look for Lukashenko to stop this shameful practice on the border, this organization of illegal migration," Tusk noted .
The Bobrovniki border crossing was closed by Poland in February 2023 for reasons of national security interests.
Earlier, the Polish Association of Entrepreneurs Zjednoczony WSCHód ("United East") turned to representatives of the Sejm demanding to open border crossings on the border with Belarus. An alternative is to introduce a program for supporting a cross -border business that has incurred losses due to the closure of the border.
As a result, the authorities of the Polish Polish Voivodeship extended the program for payments to border business.
At the same time, the Polish government intends to invest 10 billion zlotys (about $ 2.5 billion) in strengthening the protection of borders with Russia and Belarus. We are talking about the construction of defense fortifications, as well as other complex safety solutions, including the modernization of existing structures and systems. At the same time, Poland is not going to minive the border with Russia and Belarus.
