The Maldivian authorities have banned Israeli citizens from entering the country. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Security and Technology Ali Ihsaan, as reported on the website of the country's president.
The corresponding decision was recently made by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Maldives. The government of the country will create a special commission to monitor its implementation.
According to the local press, the decision to ban entry for holders of Israeli passports is related to the ongoing war in Gaza and the indignation that Israel's actions cause among the country's residents. According to SunOnline, about 15,000 tourists from Israel come to the Maldives every year.
Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu also promised to appoint a special envoy to assess the needs of the Palestinians and to raise funds to help the people of Gaza. In addition, the Maldivian authorities intend to hold a nationwide rally under the slogan "Maldives in Solidarity with Palestine."
On the eve, Israeli officials announced that they were accepting the peace plan for Gaza proposed by US President Joe Biden. It includes three stages. The first stage would see a six-week ceasefire declared, Israel withdrawing its troops from Gaza, and Hamas releasing Israeli hostages. During the second stage, the parties would exchange the remaining prisoners, and during the third stage, they would begin rebuilding war-damaged settlements and begin searching for the remains of the dead to hand them over to their relatives.
