Germany calls for preparation for war

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, answering questions from German deputies, said that Germany must be ready for war by 2029. This was reported by Kommersant.

According to Pistorius, three points are important when preparing for war. "The central issues are personnel, materials and finances," the defense minister said.

The official also added that Russia "has long ago switched to a military economy and continues to arm itself." According to him, European countries should not hope that "Putin will stop at the borders of Ukraine." Pistorius noted that it is necessary to continue supporting Ukraine, since Russia's victory will cost more than this support.

In addition, Pistorius claims that Germany needs to bring back compulsory military service. In order for the Bundeswehr to be ready for war, according to the minister, additional funding is needed. Pistorius did not specify where it should come from.

At the same time, Pistorius noted that he is not a supporter of war. "We are all ready to negotiate any peace. We are simply not a party to the war. As long as the war goes on as it is, we are ready to support Ukraine. Putin started this war," the minister said. The official added that he considers the war in Ukraine an attack on freedom and international order.

As Kommersant notes , in February of this year Pistorius allowed for Russia to attack NATO countries within the next five to eight years. At that time, Vladimir Putin stated that Russia has no territorial claims in Europe and called the statements by European officials "an inflated Russian threat."
