The victory of Russia will cost us more than the current support of Ukraine - German Defense Minister

Germany should be prepared for war with Russia by 2029. This was said by the Minister of Defense of Germany Boris Pistorius answering on Wednesday, June 5, to the questions of deputies in the Bundestag, Focus reports.

"Russia has long passed to the military economy and continues to arm himself. We should not believe that Putin will stop at the borders of Ukraine if he goes so far. We must continue to support Ukraine. We must understand that the victory of Russia will cost us more than the current support of Ukraine," the Ukrainian Radio Liberty service quotes the Pistorus.

The head of the German Ministry of Defense, in particular, announced the need to increase the budget of the defense department by 6.5-7 billion euros in 2025, as well as a long-term increase in defense expenses of Germany. The budget of the defense department for 2024 is about 52 billion euros, writes DW.

At the same time, answering additional questions of deputies, the minister did not call the specific amounts necessary in subsequent years, referring to the need to coordinate expenses between individual ministries.

The Minister of Defense is convinced that Germany should restore the universal military duty.

Pistorius excluded the sending of the German military to Ukraine. In response to the question of the deputy from the Law -Populistic Party, the alternative to Germany Rudeiger Lucassen about whether the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany on the debate on this occasion in the European Union and France is informed, and whether officials are considering sending the German military to Ukraine: the Minister of Defense said: "The answers to your questions are not and no."

Earlier it was reported that France in the near future can send its military instructors to Ukraine to teach Ukrainian soldiers. This was announced by Reuters by three diplomatic sources.

According to them, France hopes to form and lead the coalition of countries that will send their specialists to Ukraine, even despite the fears of some allies that this decision can lead to a direct conflict with Russia.
