Anarchist and mathematician Azat Miftakhov, sentenced to four years in a maximum security penal colony, was transferred from a pretrial detention center in Yekaterinburg to Pretrial Detention Center No. 2 in the city of Irbit (Sverdlovsk Region), where he will await an appeal. This was reported by the support group for the defendant in the case.
In September 2023, the mathematician was detained as he was leaving the penal colony, from which he had been released after serving his sentence in the case of the broken window of the United Russia office . The next day, he was placed in a pretrial detention facility on a new case.
According to the security forces, Miftakhov approved the act of Mikhail Zhlobitsky, who blew himself up in the Arkhangelsk FSB while watching TV with other prisoners. Miftakhov himself noted that he said nothing about Zhlobitsky that day. During the hearing to choose a preventive measure, the investigator also stated that the mathematician was an active participant in the "terrorist organization 'People's Self-Defense'."
On March 28, the Central District Military Court found Miftakhov guilty in the case of justifying terrorism (Part 1 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code) and sentenced him to four years in a maximum security penal colony.
On June 7, Azat Miftakhov was transferred not to Pre-trial Detention Center No. 2 in Irbit, but to Pre-trial Detention Center No. 4 (Kamyshov), his support group clarified.
