A conflict between a man resembling Sberbank CEO German Gref and taxi drivers occurred at the Gorno-Altaisk airport. A video of the altercation was published by the Siberian Express Telegram channel.
According to the Telegram channel, the video was sent by its subscribers. It is not specified when exactly it was filmed.
The man who introduced himself as Gref did not like the appearance of the taxi drivers and the fact that they parked their cars near the airport. “Why are you standing here in your underwear? Everyone has gathered. Who are you? We need to make a separate place for taxi drivers. <…> Get your car out of here, quickly!” the man says.
After one of the local taxi drivers entered the conflict, the alleged head of Sberbank threatened to deprive taxi drivers of the opportunity to work at the airport. “If you open your mouth again, you will never be here again. Got it? Friends, if you gather here like this again, there will be no one else here,” said the man who called himself Gref.
The man also called the assembled group a "gang", and they in turn agreed that they needed a separate parking lot. During the conflict, the man who introduced himself as Gref also tried to take the sunglasses off one of the taxi drivers. "Don't touch me with your hands," the driver replied.
In April 2024, Sberbank bought 60% of the shares of the Gorno-Altaisk airport from the investment company AFK Sistema. Before that, Sberbank owned another 40% of the shares. Then Gref said that the airport should become international, increasing passenger traffic from 150 thousand people to one and a half million.
“We are now 100% the owner of the airport and are actively designing it; we will essentially be building a new airport,” Gref said in April.
According to him, the Russian government should invest additional funds in the airport, which will be used to increase the length of the runway by 500 meters, build aprons, and install a new system of lighting and navigation equipment.
