Apple Corporation announced the Apple Intelligence (AI) artificial intelligence system at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2024).
Apple's AI will be integrated into the new operating systems the company unveiled at the conference — iOS 18, iPad OS 18, and MacOS Sequoia. Apple Intelligence will be able to perform various actions for the user — for example, managing notifications, automatically composing texts, or summarizing information in mail and other applications.
All data will supposedly be processed on-device to ensure privacy. The Verge notes that Apple Intelligence will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, as well as iPads and MacBooks with the M1 chip and later.
Thanks to artificial intelligence, the user's communication with the voice assistant Siri will be "more natural," Apple claims. In particular, the assistant will adapt to the context of what the user says.
Apple also announced the integration of Siri with ChatGPT. The voice assistant will contact the chatbot to get the necessary information, and then give it to the user. The company did not specify when exactly ChatGPT will appear on Apple devices, stating only that it will happen this year. Using ChatGPT will be free and will not require creating an account. The chatbot will also not save user requests.
During the presentation, Apple also announced that Calculator will be coming to iPads for the first time, and the app will be available on iPadOS 18. The app will support the Apple Pencil, which will be used to enter math problems into Calculator.
