EU ambassadors agreed on negotiations on the entry of Ukraine and Moldova

Permanent representatives of the Member States of the European Union in the evening of June have fundamentally approved the framework for negotiations on the entry of Ukraine and Moldova. This was announced by the Belgian chairmanship in the Council of the European Union.

"The ambassadors reached a fundamental consent regarding the negotiation framework on the entry of Ukraine and Moldova," the report said.

Hungary and Slovakia did not block the solutions.

The decision of the European Union ambassadors means that on June 25 an intergovernmental conference will be held, which will give an official start to negotiations to join the Bloc of Ukraine and Moldova.

In early June, twelve member countries of the European Union called for accelerating the process of Ukraine and Moldova’s entry into the bloc and begin formal negotiations until the end of June.

A letter initiated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Martin Dvorzhak addressed to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Aji Labib was signed by 11 more member states of the European Union: Sweden, Finland, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia and Slovakia.

The signatures praised the “steps made by the Belgian chairmanship of the EU during the entry of Ukraine and Moldova to the EU,” and emphasized the need to motivate both countries by gradual integration into the EU policy and program into full membership.

However, on June 7, the permanent representatives of the European Union member countries were not able to decide on the beginning of negotiations on Ukraine’s entry into the EU, which was recommended by the European Commission, due to objections from Hungary.
