NATO countries could not agree on 40 billion euros of assistance per year for Ukraine

In NATO, they agreed on a plan of assistance to Ukraine in the field of security and training, but did not reach consent about 40 billion euros annually for military assistance to Kyiv. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a briefing following a meeting of the Minister of Defense of the Alliance countries.

“Long -term financial obligations - we have not yet reached the consent of this score. But I work and many members of the alliance very much support the idea that we need not only short -term obligations. If we can have more long -term alleged obligations, this will give Ukrainians the best conditions for planning,” the Ukrainian Radio Liberty Service quotes the Ukrainian Service Service.

According to NATO Secretary General, this will ensure greater predictability and transparency, the minimum or fair distribution of burden within the alliance and, most importantly, will make it clear to Moscow that it will not be possible to wait out.

According to Stoltenberg, the agreed plan defines the role of NATO in coordination of assistance and safety training. For the leaders of the alliance, he will be presented next week.

"NATO will supervise the preparation of Ukrainian armed forces at training bases in the alliance countries, will support Ukraine through planning and coordination of donations; will lead the transfer and repair of equipment, and will support the long -term development of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," he added.

Earlier, the media reported that Stoltenberg refused plans to create a five -year military assistance to Ukraine after faced with opposition from the alliance members.

It was planned that the budget of the fund will be 100 billion euros for five years. But NATO allies expressed doubt about the implementation of this idea. Ukraine also had questions for the initiative to create a fund.

Then the Alliance Secretary General submitted a new proposal, according to which the alliance members undertake to spend at least 40 billion euros per year on lethal and non -lethal assistance for Ukraine.
