"Absolutely corruption history"
The building of the House of Soviets began to be built in 1970 on the site of the German Royal Castle, which in 1967 was blown up by decision of the Soviet government. The building was supposed to be 28-story, but due to the inappropriate soil, the height was reduced to 21 floors. By the end of the 1980s, the House of Soviets was almost ready, but the construction was never completed due to financing problems.
In 2019, the building turned into the ownership of the Kaliningrad region. Former regional governor Anton Alikhanov said that he plans to restore the House of Soviets and relocate officials of the regional government there. And he even published on his Instagram a photo with a hashtag #MYPRECOUS ("My lovely"). The purchase cost 400 million rubles from the budget.
Igor Rudnikov, the editor -in -chief of the newspaper New Wheels in an interview with North. Realiy called this deal "absolutely corruption history" , since already at the time of the purchase it was known that the building was in disrepair and it is almost impossible to restore it.
In 2020, the House of Soviets was decided to demolish. The work began in May last year.
