
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has set compensation for 5 thousand euros of the Karelian activist Ilya Shkvarin for arrest for promotions in support of the politician Alexei Navalny in 2021. This was reported by the Telegram channel from from Karelia with Freedom with reference to lawyer Natalia Chernov.
In January 2021, in Petrozavodsk, as in many cities of Russia, a rally was held in support of Alexei Navalny.

After poisoning and treatment in Germany, Alexei Navalny returned to Russia on January 17, 2021 and was detained at the airport. He was arrested. From January 23 to February 2, large -scale protests were held in Russia, on which several thousand people were detained. At a rally in Petrozavodsk, several people were detained, including activists Ilya Shkvarin, Vitaliy Fleganov and writer Sergei Filenko.
Shkvarina and Fleganov were arrested for two days. According to the lawyer Natalia Chernova, Shkvarin appealed the arrest in national courts, but the decision was left unchanged. Then he turned to the ECHR.

Ilya Shkvarin also participated in other promotions in Petrozavodsk. In 2020, he spoke in defense of the Kamenny Bor Park, where the city administration wanted to build a kindergarten, cutting down trees.
The inhabitants of Petrozavodsk got into a live chain, guarding the park, stopped construction work several times. As a result, the construction still took place, but the kindergarten still does not work, the authorities promise that he will accept children in September 2024.
