80 countries support communiqué of peace summit in Switzerland

The communiqué of the peace summit in Ukraine, which took place from June 15 to 16 in the Swiss city of Bürgenstock, was signed by 80 countries and four organizations, Radio Liberty reports .

According to the publication, Thailand, India, Mexico, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates refused to sign the agreement. A total of 92 countries and eight intergovernmental organizations participated in the summit, including the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the European Parliament. China, Brazil and Saudi Arabia also did not sign the agreement, refusing to participate in the summit.

Russia was not invited to the conference, but Swiss authorities said the summit offered the opportunity to discuss for the first time at the highest level how and when Russia could be included in the process."

Earlier, Reuters published the full text of the draft communique. The introductory part of the document states that the war in Ukraine "continues to cause widespread human suffering and destruction, and creates crises with global implications for the entire world."

The summit participants expressed a “common vision” on three aspects:

• "Ukrainian nuclear power plants must operate in a safe and secure environment under the full control of Ukraine. Any use of nuclear energy and nuclear installations must be safe, secure, protected and environmentally sound," the communiqué says.
• Food security is of great importance, in particular safe shipping and access of the Ukrainian fleet to the seaports of the Black and Azov Seas. "Food security should in no way be turned into a weapon. Ukrainian agricultural products should be safely and free of charge supplied to interested third countries," the document says.
• All prisoners of war must be released through exchange. In addition, all illegally displaced Ukrainian children and other civilians who were illegally detained must be returned to Ukraine.

Following the publication by Reuters, the text of the communique appeared on the website of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Russian authorities have repeatedly called the Ukrainian "peace formula" unacceptable. On June 14, Vladimir Putin put forward yet another set of demands for peace, according to which Ukraine was asked to withdraw its troops from the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR, as well as from the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, and to refuse to join NATO.
