European beer supplies to Russia rise to highest level since August 2023

In April, beer exports from the European Union to Russia reached their highest level since August 2023, RIA Novosti reports , citing its own analysis of Eurostat data.

Thus, the EU countries supplied Russia with a total of 27.5 thousand tons of beer worth 23.1 million euros. This was 17% more in physical terms and 13% more in monetary terms than the month before.

At the same time, deliveries in April turned out to be the largest since August 2023, when EU countries exported 28.2 thousand tons of beer to Russia for 25.9 million euros.

German brewers became the main supplier of the foamy drink to Russia. Beer worth a total of 8.5 million euros was delivered from Germany. Lithuania was in second place in the list of the largest European beer exporters to Russia, having delivered products worth four million euros. Belgium took third place with deliveries worth 3.2 million euros. It pushed Czech brewers, who delivered foamy drink worth three million euros to fourth place. Poland rounded out the top five largest European beer exporters to Russia with deliveries worth 2.1 million euros.

In April, the Russian government issued a decree raising import duties on beer exported from "unfriendly" countries. As a result, the duty immediately increased by two and a half times - from 0.04 to 0.1 euros per liter.

"The share of this product in the overall consumption structure does not exceed 5%. The measure is also not prohibitive and will help level the competitive playing field for Russian manufacturers," the Ministry of Industry and Trade commented on this decision at the time.

At the same time, according to Kommersant, in 2023, beer imports to Russia increased by 12.6% compared to 2022 and amounted to 370.5 million liters.
