Russia is the undisputed leader in the medal count of the BRICS Games held in Kazan. Thus, Russian athletes received 115 gold medals there, in second place are participants from Belarus with 19 gold medals, and in third place are Chinese athletes who won 17 gold medals, TASS reports . Such a stunning success of Russian athletes is explained by the fact that they have practically no rivals in these competitions.
For example, Russian synchronized swimmer Alexander Maltsev won two gold medals. At the same time, in the technical program he had only one opponent - an athlete from Thailand, and in the free program Maltsev was the only participant.
A similar situation is observed in other sports disciplines at the BRICS Games. For example, only two athletes competed for medals in women's diving, both from Russia - Victoria Kazantseva and Yulia Timoshinina.
The organizers of the games exaggerate the number of countries participating in them. For example, the Georgian flag was present at the opening ceremony, and the organizers stated that two Georgian sambo wrestlers were participating in the competition. However, representatives of the Georgian Sambo Federation denied this.
"Both athletes are in Georgia and have not traveled anywhere. No normal Georgian would do this, especially our athletes," the federation said.
In addition, as the Dozhd TV channel noted , the list of participants on the BRICS Games website includes various European countries, but the list of declared athletes from these countries includes the number “zero”.
