Justin Timberlake arrested for drunk driving

American singer and actor Justin Timberlake has been arrested for drunk driving, CNN reports, citing police.

According to the publication, on the night of May 18, Timberlake was driving a BMW in the village of Sag Harbor, New York. Police noticed him after he failed to stop at a stop sign and then drove into the next lane. Law enforcement officers stopped the artist and took him to the station, where he spent the night.

Timberlake was charged with drunk driving but released without bail. The singer's trial will take place on July 26. According to the BBC, drunk driving in New York State carries a fine of up to $1,000, a suspension of the driver's license for up to six months, or a year in prison.

Sag Harbor is a village on the eastern tip of Long Island. Timberlake, 43, left the American Hotel in the area shortly before his arrest, according to a source familiar with the matter to CNN.

Justin Timberlake rose to fame in the late '90s as a member of the band NYSNC. He launched a solo career in the 2000s. Since then, he has won 10 Grammy Awards, four Emmy Awards, and numerous Billboard Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards. He was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his single "Can't Stop the Feeling!", which was used in the animated film Trolls.

Timberlake has also starred in several films, including In Time, Friends with Benefits, Bad Teacher, and The Social Network. Last year, the artist admitted that there was an episode in his career when he abused alcohol.
