EU adopts 14th package of sanctions against Russia

The European Council has adopted the 14th package of economic and individual sanctions against Russia. This is stated in a statement by the Council.

Another 116 individuals and legal entities responsible for actions that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine were also subject to restrictions.

They included Ivan Okhlobystin, "Shaman" and Polina Gagarina, as well as the founder of News Media (which includes Life, Mash, Shot) Aram Gabrelyanov, the president of the Baltika brewing company Taimuraz Bolloev, the state secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev and the head of the ANO "Institute for Internet Development" Alexey Goreslavsky.

Among the legal entities subject to restrictions were the Artek children's camp, the Kadyrov public foundation, Ural Airlines, and Sovcomflot.

The EU will continue to buy Russian LNG, but will impose restrictions on its transit through European ports. Now EU companies are responsible for ensuring that their subsidiaries in third countries do not circumvent sanctions against Russia.

The package also includes:

• restrictions against 27 vessels of Russia's so-called "shadow fleet" that are used to circumvent sanctions;

• prohibition of investments, provision of goods, technologies and services for the completion of LNG projects such as Arctic LNG 2 and Murmansk LNG;

• The EU has banned its airlines from operating charters and private flights around the world on behalf of individuals and legal entities from Russia;

• European companies selling military equipment to third countries will have to implement mechanisms capable of identifying and assessing the risks of re-export to Russia and reducing them;

• a ban on the import of helium from Russia and the export to the Russian Federation of manganese ores, a number of types of plastic, rare earth elements, and electronic components.

• a ban on political parties, non-governmental organizations and media companies in the EU receiving money from the Russian authorities;

• measures in relation to the Bank of Russia Financial Messaging System (the Russian equivalent of SWIFT);

• a ban on the registration of certain types of intellectual property in Europe by Russians;

• a ban on European companies demanding compensation for damages caused to them by Russian companies as a result of the introduction of sanctions.
