YouTube may add a sleep timer feature to the mobile version of the service, according to Authority Media, a publication specializing in consumer electronics and digital services.
The publication's experts found information about the new feature in lines of code loaded into the latest version of the Android app. Authority Media notes that the sleep timer is a common feature in podcast and music apps. Its purpose is to stop playing content after a certain period of time.
As Kommersant writes , YouTube videos are often watched before going to bed. However, when a person falls asleep, the video playback does not stop and consumes traffic and the phone's battery.
According to Authority Media's analysis, with the introduction of the timer, YouTube users will be able to set the number of hours and minutes after which the video will automatically stop playing.
However, if a person has not yet fallen asleep and wants to continue watching, he will be able to reset the timer, which will be displayed as a notification.
Authority Media notes that the implementation of the new function is delayed, especially in light of the fact that the YouTube Music app already has a timer. Android users, as the publication writes, previously had to use third-party applications to get an analogue of the function. At the same time, iPhone users can install a system-wide timer.
In addition, the publication's analysts expressed hope that YouTube will soon introduce a function to stop playback after the end of a video so that the video service does not automatically move on to the next video.
Authority Media emphasizes that code analysis allows us to predict what features may appear in applications in the future, but it is not at all necessary that the code analyzed by the publication's experts will make it into the final version of the application.
