In a normal country, there are a lot of formal and informal mechanisms that encourage people to act in accordance with moral standards. Here, the court of public opinion, and condemnation or approval by institutionalized moral authorities - professional associations, church, jury of competitions, and just a court, which, in the event of a completely non -conventional behavior, can punish for this. Of course, this never works absolutely: good and honest do not always win at all, good is not always rewarded, and evil is not always punished. But society and the state are striving for this.

But if, instead of the state, something like a mafia, if all independent is destroyed, if social elevators are arranged so that the most unscrupulous rise up, if talent and intelligence are not becoming factors of success, but, on the contrary, arouse suspicion if lies and hypocrisy reign? If the authorities are interested in the moral degradation of the population, so that it is easier to keep everyone in UP? Who and how then helps someone to remain a person at least?

With a normal life, behaving decently and maintain self -esteem relatively - only relatively! - easily. But in dark times, it becomes difficult, and for many - an unsolvable task,

Which is carried out by those who generally puts it in front of themselves, not thanks, but contrary to the social environment.

Someone is enough for their own rod, their own moral charge, laid down in childhood or given by nature itself. They focus not on someone, but on themselves. Heroes, ascetics, prophets in any situation act, without looking at either power or public opinion, often not even thinking about the effectiveness of their efforts. Just "I stand on that!"

But many of those who want to maintain human dignity, who do not want to give up, still need help. It is not necessarily objective support - in such dark times it is inaccessible - but the support is moral.

For some, this is the support of the great: “In the depths of Siberian ores, keep proud patience ...”, “Stay hard among the crowd of confused ...” and much more. You read it and try on yourself. And one of my teachers - I was lucky at them! - He said that he was in a constant dialogue with Kant and Hegel. But this, even when it helps, is actually an appeal to himself, to his inner potential - the choice of a dialog partner depends on you.

You can remember about the tear of the child, or you can do life with Comrade Dzerzhinsky. You can read Grossman, or you can - Prilepin. You can admire Lenin and Stalin, or you can - those who opposed them.

But there are now living leaders and heroes - or those who you found. And they can really help you. You were present at the drama of their life, you emphasized them and identified with them. They gave you an example of how and should do.

This does not mean that you will act the same way: you may not have enough strength for it, but you will find courage for some worthy actions, and you can resist some compromises and retreats.

And this will not happen thanks to the political program or declarations of this person, but due to his behavior - his self -sacrifice, courage, and non -beating. People who admired the courage of Navalny and came goodbye to him did not just pay tribute to the deceased hero - they themselves became better. He made them better.

But the influence is a hundred times more if a person had personal contact with someone who acts for him. Napoleon, who had a unique memory on his faces, could, walking along the system, stop and tell the soldier that you were with me under the Austerlitan. And this was more expensive than any reward, and in the presence of the emperor (or even just remembering him) became impossible not only for this soldier, but also for everyone who attended a brief conversation.

This outweighs, he refuses, he does not commit betrayal. Like many of us from meanness, people who would not give our hands from the retreat!

But most of all are protected from moral defeat (no, it is still possible, but becomes less likely) those who had not just authorities, but teachers - not those who taught spelling or integrals, but a teacher in life. With them, you can certainly be in a constant inner dialogue - you spent many hours with them in real life. The teacher needs to admire them, to understand, “how to learn” to keep a blow in order to correlate his actions with him, even when he is no longer in this life, to know that now, when you withstand the pressure and did not make a deal with his conscience, he would approve you.

Many of those who cause our admiration for their courage, and with their whole lives, had teachers. Maybe that's why they live that they have someone to equal.

Now it’s hard time.

We are in horror, we do not know how to live, it seems to us that we cannot do anything. Many give up their hands. And how to survive, how not to break, do not sleep, not fall into depression?

And many people have no one to talk to.

No and cannot be recipes. But, oddly enough, the first step towards salvation (salvation of the soul, salvation of oneself as a person) is precisely the awareness of the horror of what is happening, the understanding that, very likely, the evil will not be defeated during your life, that the country that we have lost is no longer there, but never will never be. The other will be, but this one. Our teachers taught us to see the world as it is, not to close our eyes and not to amuse ourselves with illusions.

Try not to despair. It will pass and this is not forever! The minimum program is to survive, not only physically, but also morally. How? There are no recipes, but Victor Frankl said that the chances of survival were higher than those prisoners of the Nazi camps who understood what they had to survive, who in those terrible conditions retained the sense of the meaning of life.

Someone has unwritten books, there are incomplete projects-it saves. But not everyone has it. Can any meaningful goals not just survive for yourself, but an ordinary person is ordinary, but understanding all the horror of what is happening?

The meaning is always outside of us, a sense of meaning gives an activity aimed not at ourselves, but at something else-at other people, to nature, to art. Our teachers were engaged not only in themselves, but also by us, they considered help to us meaningful activity in becoming people. Maybe this is not closed for you? Maybe you can save at least one person from dissolution in the surrounding madness? His student or colleague, his child or child’s child - to help him avoid cowardice and meanness, the betrayal of others and himself.

True, you can do this not in words, but by a personal example, there are no demonstrations of your heroism (most of us are by no means heroes), but that you at least have not given your right to your own attitude to what is happening, that good is good for you, and evil, no matter what they carry from the screens. And you will have an answer to the question: "What did you do then to confront the darkness?"

By the way, I was lucky - I had a teacher. Her, Galina Mikhailovna Andreeva, a fantastic person, is not (her only anniversary was), and she still affects my life. I'm still in dialogue with her.
