The Council of the European Union introduced a number of sanctions against Belarus on June 29, which were previously introduced against Russia. This was done in order to prevent circulation of sanctions against Moscow using the Belarusian territory and Belarusian companies.
" These complex measures are aimed at mirroring a number of restrictive measures already acting in relation to Russia in order to solve the problem of bypassing sanctions due to a high degree of integration between the Russian and Belarusian economies ," the EU Council said.
New measures will affect, in particular, trade. Additional restrictions on export to Belarus of goods and technologies for sea shipping and luxury items are introduced.
As for imports, in particular, direct or indirect purchase of gold and diamonds from Belarus, as well as helium, coal and mineral products, including raw oil, will be prohibited.
The EU Council also prohibited the provision of certain services of Belarus, its government, state bodies, as well as any individuals or legal entities acting on their behalf or at their direction.
In particular, it is forbidden to provide accounting services, audit services (including an obligatory audit), tax consulting services, consulting services on business and management issues, public relations services.
It is forbidden to provide Belarus with architectural and engineering services, as well as consulting services in the field of information technology and legal consulting services.
Services for market research and public opinion survey, products testing and technical control were also banned.
The EU Council expands the ban on the transportation of goods by road through the EU by trays and semi -trailers registered in Belarus, including by transportation by trucks registered outside Belarus.
" In order to minimize the risk of bypassing sanctions, EU operators who belong to the Belarusian physical or legal entity by 25% or more, it should be prohibited from becoming a motor transport company or transporting goods by road in the Union, including transit ," the statement said.
The EU Council also requires that European exporters include the so -called "Belarusian reservation" in their future contracts, which prohibits re -export in Belarus of " sensitive " goods and technologies, firearms and ammunition.
The EU will prohibit transit through the territory of Belarus of goods and technologies that can be used in the military-technical sphere, as well as goods that can be used to strengthen the Belarusian industrial potential.
