Head of Investigative Committee proposes banning niqabs

The head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, proposed banning religious clothing that covers the face in Russia. His words were quoted by RBC.

One of the visitors to the International Youth Legal Forum told Bastrykin that in Central Asian countries, in particular in Uzbekistan, it is forbidden to wear religious clothing that covers the face. "Those who cannot wear the niqab there move here and wear it in Russia," he said. A visitor to the forum asked the head of the Investigative Committee whether it is possible to ban such clothing in Russia.

"It is the State Duma's task to pass a law banning what you are talking about. It is banned there, but allowed here. Why? I don't know, I am not a legislator. I agree with you, all of this must be banned urgently," Bastrykin said.

The head of the Investigative Committee, speaking at a forum on June 27, called the lower house of parliament the "State Fool." "I would very much like to know when our State Fool will pass a good law, excuse me," Bastrykin said. Before that, the head of the Investigative Committee spoke about problems in the area of ​​migration. He asked a deputy in the hall whether the lower house of parliament was going to pass laws concerning it.

According to Bastrykin, he read the expression “Gosdura” in the comments to a publication on the propaganda channel “Tsargrad”, which reported on his meeting with residents of Kotelniki who complained about migrants.

In response, the speaker of the lower house of parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin , said that the expression "State Fool" insulted the Russian people. "The deputies were elected by citizens of the Russian Federation, he insulted the people," Volodin said.
