NYT Calls on Biden to Withdraw His Candidacy from the Presidential Election

The American newspaper The New York Times has called on US President Joe Biden to withdraw his candidacy from the upcoming presidential elections. This is stated in a statement by the newspaper.

“The president had to convince the American public in Thursday’s debate that he is up to the enormous demands of the job he is seeking to fill for another term. But voters cannot be expected to ignore what was obvious: Mr. Biden is not the man he was four years ago,” the Times said. The paper said he appeared in the debate as “a shadow of the great public servant.”

"Mr. Biden has been a great president. Under his leadership, the country has prospered and begun to address some of its long-term problems, and the wounds inflicted by Trump have begun to heal. But the greatest public service Mr. Biden can perform now is to announce that he will not run again," the Times said in a statement.

The newspaper added that there are people among the members of the Democratic Party who are ready to be an alternative to Trump in the upcoming presidential elections. The NYT noted that withdrawing his candidacy from the elections is “the best service Biden can render to the country he has served so nobly for so long.”

The debate between Biden and Republican candidate Donald Trump took place on June 27. During the debate, Trump, in particular, said that Vladimir Putin could have been pushed to war in Ukraine by his disrespect for Biden, whom he allegedly does not take seriously. “I have never heard so much bullshit in my life,” the current American president said.

According to a CNN poll , 67% of viewers awarded the victory in this round of debates to Trump. Only 33% named Biden the winner. In 2020, however, the majority of viewers gave the victory to Biden.
