Chisinau cannot fully join the EU sanctions against Russia - the Moldovan Foreign Ministry

Moldova cannot yet completely synchronize the policy of EU sanctions against Russia. This was announced by TV8 by Moldova Foreign Minister Mikhai Popshoy, writes Interfax-Ukraine.

"Our obligations implies that the policy of sanctions with the EU will have Moldova at the level of 100%. But this is designed for the future. We now have this indicator about 80%. Therefore, we cannot talk about the complete synchronization of sanctions at this stage," said Popshoy.

According to him, Moldova does not join the sanctions where Moldavian exports and imports are affected.

The minister recalled that the main package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation was adopted in 2014. Then Moldova did not join him.

"The European Union refers to our positions. Different countries have a different situation. Not all countries - EU members use sanctions the same way, each takes into account their interests," said Popshoy.

He added that " the relationship between Moldova with Russia is at the lowest level from the moment of the proclamation of independence."

The minister also touched on the topic of relations with Belarus. According to him, Moldova "has a solid commodity position, especially in agriculture that it exports to the Belarusian market ." “We are not striving to harm our relationship with Belarus,” the minister added.

Earlier, Moldova President Maya Sandusigned a decree on the beginning of negotiations on the country's entry into the European Union. On October 20, 2024, a referendum on European integration of the country will be held in Moldova.
