Baby left in Moscow entryway

A newborn baby girl was found in the entrance of a residential building on Chusovskaya Street in Moscow. The Moscow Prosecutor's Office reported this on its Telegram channel.

As the department specified, the child was abandoned there by his mother. "According to preliminary data, the woman entered the entrance of the apartment building, following one of the residents who opened the door, and then left her newborn daughter there. The identity of the woman, born in 1982, has been established," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

It also notes that the child was taken to a medical facility and that the newborn girl’s life and health are currently not in danger.

In recent years, Russian authorities have been waging a targeted fight against abortions, seeking to stop private clinics from performing abortion procedures, and introducing fines in the regions for “inducing” abortions.

On June 28, it became known that the State Duma Committee on Health Protection recommended that the Ministry of Health reduce the period for abortion “at the woman’s request” from 12 to nine weeks.

The Duma committee also called on Roszdravnadzor to strengthen control over medications for medical abortion and prevent their use outside of medical organizations.

Earlier in June, the Ministry of Health approved new clinical guidelines for abortions. Thus, before the procedure, doctors are required to perform an ultrasound so that the woman can see the fetus and hear its heartbeat. They must also refer the woman to a consultation with a psychologist.
