
President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said that in the near future he plans to release several seriously ill -ill political prisoners. According to him, first of all, the amnesty will affect people with cancer.
“We must act in a lovely one. Do not be surprised if very seriously ill patients, ours who did not have time to escape and are in places not as remote that they broke, destroyed the country in 2020. But these are really seriously painful. Basically, with cancerous diseases,” Lukashenko said.
According to the Vesna human rights center (its activities are prohibited in Belarus) as of May 27, 2024 there is information about at least 254 political prisoners in special risk due to health reasons.
Among them are 16 people with disabilities, 91 people in a critical state of health, 10 people with mental disorders. Also, part of political prisoners have oncological diseases.
