Parents of schoolchildren will be fined for listening to the Russian anthem while sitting

Administrative protocols were drawn up against parents of ninth-graders from Nalchik for violating the official use of the Russian anthem. This was reported by the Mash Gor Telegram channel.

According to the Telegram channel, several parents of graduates refused to stand up when the anthem began. Their children covered their ears with their hands at the time. “Among the eight adults who did not stand up during the anthem at School No. 33 were: the head of a department at RusHydro (an energy company that owns most of the power plants in Russia — Ed. Kholod) , the wife of the head coach of the Russian national judo team, the wife of a major developer in [the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic], and mothers of many children who receive hefty social benefits from the state,” Mash Gor writes.

The head of the State Duma Defense Committee, Andrei Kartapolov , called the behavior of the graduates' parents "an act of demonstrative disrespect for the National Anthem." On July 7, he reported that the security forces had responded to the appeal he had sent to the "relevant authorities."

Lawyer Mikhail Benyash told Ekho that he had not heard of punishments for such actions before. "This article itself was developed not so much for those who do not stand up during the anthem, but for those who use the anthem incorrectly: in some kind of advertising and without approval, or to mislead people. I have never encountered such law enforcement as in this case. Usually, no one cared," Benyash said.

A similar situation occurred in March last year. Then, the deputy of the district assembly in the Kaluga region, Alexander Lependin from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, was fined five thousand rubles after he did not stand up during the performance of the anthem. The deputy said that his legs hurt that day, and Russian law allows listening to the anthem "in a sitting position for health reasons."
