WhatsApp has started to be jammed in Dagestan

Residents of Dagestan have begun to complain about interruptions in WhatsApp. Telecom operators have received direct instructions from "relevant agencies" to restrict the messenger's operation, TASS reports .

Providers began jamming the service of the American company Meta, recognized in Russia as an extremist organization, from the second half of Sunday, July 7.

Text messages are still delayed, voice messages and media files are not sent at all, and it is also impossible to make calls using WhatsApp, complain participants of the large republican public group "Voice of Dagestan" on VKontakte. With VPN, the group's admins clarify, the messenger works stably and without problems.

The demands on providers "are related to the anti-terrorist activities of relevant agencies," TASS sources close to the FSB explained. "The WhatsApp administration was sent demands to stop the dissemination of calls to participate in extremist actions, but they were ignored," the state news agency quoted its sources as saying.

Sources of the publication "Caucasian Knot" reported that on Monday, July 8, problems with WhatsApp began for residents of Kabardino-Balkaria "and other regions."

Law enforcement agencies fear new terrorist attacks in the Caucasus - after armed men attacked Dagestani synagogues and an Orthodox church on June 23. Then, on Trinity Day, 22 people died , including 17 security officers. Another 46 people were injured.

The American Institute for the Study of War claimed that the attacks on Dagestan were carried out by Vilayat Kavkaz, a cell of the Islamic State. Pro-Kremlin bots blamed the US and Ukraine.
