Scooter riders will be tested for their cognitive reaction speed
A major Russian kick-sharing operator, Whoosh, will test the speed of its users' cognitive reactions when renting an electric scooter. This is reported by RBC, citing a press release received from the company.
It says that customers will be asked to take a short test that will help assess reaction speed, attentiveness and concentration. The test contains simple tasks: such as putting numbers and letters in the correct order, determining the color of a word or finding the name of a color. The user will have one minute to complete the test.
At the same time, those who fail the test or refuse to do it at all will still not be denied a scooter rental, but their speed will be limited to 15 kilometers per hour. "With the help of the new product, Whoosh will technically support the safety of the upcoming trip - it will not allow abrupt maneuvers and acceleration for users who are not ready for this at the moment," the company explained.
In June, it became known that in Moscow alone, since the beginning of the 2024 season, 135 thousand fines have been issued to users of electric scooters and other personal mobility devices (PMD). As reported, the kick-sharing operators themselves fine violators, relying on data from city surveillance cameras.
A month before, scooter rental services toughened penalties for violating clients. Thus, a fine of 100 thousand rubles was set for drunk driving, 5 thousand rubles for two people riding on one scooter, and 10 thousand rubles for allowing minors to drive a SIM.
In early June, police in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region reported that at least 11,000 rental electric scooters had been towed to impound lots. As the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs explained, the reason for the towing was violations of parking rules, specifying that parking scooters on sidewalks is considered “incorrect.”
Moreover, for each such recorded case, kick-sharing operators are fined 1,200 rubles.
