The accusation is investigated by additional episodes of sexualized violence, which Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein could commit. These episodes were committed within the limitation period and may be investigated as crimes, the prosecutor said: Ki.
In April, the New York Court of Appeal canceled one of the sentences to Weinstein. The decision said that the verdict was sentenced without a proper trial, since the state prosecution caused a witness: the NIC, whose testimony was not related to the case. In addition, according to the appeal, earlier, the court put Vainstein in an “extremely biased” light during a cross interrogation and outbreaks of anger in relation to colleagues. The canceled verdict was issued in 2020. Then Weinstein was given 23 years in prison. The jury found him guilty of rape and coercion to oral sex.
Weinstein continues to remain in imprisonment. He is serving a sentence for the rape of the actress and two episodes of the sexualized violence that he committed in 2013. In this case, the court sentenced Weinstein to 16 years in prison. Weinstein denies all the accusations.
How did the movement against harassment #Metoo arise
The condemnation of Harvey Weinstein was an important milestone in the development of the #Metoo movement, which began in 2017. Then several Hollywood actresses said that Vainstein had harassed them for several years and forced them to sex, taking advantage of his influential position in the world of cinema. Among the prosecutors of the producer are Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Uma Thurman.
After public statements by actresses, women around the world began to openly talk about harassment. Many published their stories with the hashtag #Metoo. He was popularized by actress Alissa Milano to show the scale of the problem.
As a result of the #Metoo movement, more than two hundred famous men were deprived of work due to public accusations of sexualized violence. The movement affected not only the film industry, but also the spheres of politics, sports, music, education, army and religion. The hashtag hilled in social networks at least around the world.
One of the results of the movement was the change in American legislation. More than 200 bills were introduced to prevent harassment. Several states have adopted laws that allow women to file claims for compensation for moral damage for harassment, even if they occurred many years ago.
The hashtag #Metoo was invented by a black activist for civil rights of Taran Burk in 2006 - even before the history of Vainstein's accusation. Burke said that once an unfamiliar girl shared her, that she was sexualized by violence. According to Burk, she did not know what to answer, and regretted that she did not say: "I, too." Now Burk is engaged in the help of victims of sexualized violence.
