Ukrainian doctors themselves saved the children from the Okhmatdet hospital after a missile blow. They told Novy-Europe, as it was and what with patients now

On July 8, Russia hit the Okhmatdet children's hospital in Kyiv. The shell was damaged by one of the buildings. Immediately after that, doctors of other clinics arrived at the hospital, including Dobrobut's private medical network. In their hands they took out children from the dilapidated building and sent for further treatment. The doctors shared the memories of how it was.

Evacuation

On July 8, 29 people were killed in Kiev, among them at least six medical institutions :

• Nefroologist in Okhmatdet Svetlana Lukyanchuk;

• obstetrician-gynecologist in Adonis Svetlana Poplavskaya;

• The senior nurse in Adonis Tatyana Sharova;

• Diagnostic ultrasound in Adonis Viktor Bragutsu;

• Oksana Korzh's sister in Adonis;

• The senior cashier in Adonis Victoria Bondarenko.

Doctors of the Dobrobut clinics, learning about the blow, immediately realized that they needed to go to the place and help. They removed eight ambulance from the line and went to the hospital. There were ten doctors in the cars, including five anesthesiologists.

Olga Adamenko told the head of the Dobrobuta, “New-Europe” that it was the number of doctors and ambulances that made it possible to quickly take away severe patients from Okhmatdet. By the time of the arrival of doctors, public ambulances were already working on the spot. Together they looked for patients and took them to safe places. They remained at the scene of the blow until five in the evening, and then returned to their line and continued to work until the next morning.

-Of course, there were risks that there would be collapse, that something could hook, there was a second alarm. But at that moment we did not think about it.

It looks very scary, a large -scale disaster, the children wounded, terrible, it is simply impossible to convey in words. But at that moment, the whole concentration of attention was on taking patients as quickly as possible.

We did everything that depends on us to clearly work out [the situation], ”says the health worker.

Adamenko notes that in total, the urgent officers evacuated 18 people from Okhmatdet - 17 sick children and a health worker wounded as a result of shelling. Seven children were transported through the hospitals of “Dobrobuta” on the right and left shores of Kyiv, and the rest in other clinics.

- Among them there are also very tiny patients, 6 and 8 months. The oldest boy is 17 years old. One child is in intensive care, two in the surgical department, the rest receive treatment and careful medical care in our hospitals, the hospital said .

Olga recalls that they were looking for children in the dilapidated publication and carried them out in their arms. First of all, they took away five patients who needed oxygen and artificial ventilation of the lungs. Thus, doctors in every possible way reduced the load on the Okhmatdet personnel, where electricity also turned off to everything else.

Surgeons operated on one small patient immediately after a missile strike along with her attending doctors from Okhmatdet. On the same day, the children's urologist Maxim Ponomarenko began to perform surgery to a two -year -old child in Okhmatdet and successfully completed it in Dobrabut. Now the patient is in a stable state and expects discharge.

“We are proud of the stamina of our colleague. In October 2022, during the first massive missile strike, Maxim Ponomarenko also performed a difficult surgical operation to a small child and had to end it to the sounds of explosions. A few months ago, the Russian rocket destroyed the house in which our doctor lived. But he holds on and continues to work, ” said the press service of Okhmatdet.

A doctor with a child in his arms

In the morning before the blow, the IC completed the duty in Okhmatdet and went to the second work in Dobrobut, where he headed the emergency assistance department. Vitaliy told Novy-Europe that, having learned about the hit of the projectile, he immediately returned to the scene with other doctors. The photographer captured him just during the evacuation.

- In the photo, my patient, who was treated in the building where I work in the intensive care unit, which a blow was on. He was just lucky that just a few days before the events we transferred him from an intensive care unit to another ward, ”said Iz.

After the evacuation from Okhmatdet, the child was sent to one of the state clinics of Kyiv. There he was again connected to hemodialysis, and doctors continue to control his condition.

The first thing Vitaly felt when he saw a video with a missile blow to the hospital and arriving at the place of tragedy was pain. He recalls that countless forces and resources were invested in the now destroyed corps. The children's department of toxicology in the hospital was unique for Ukraine, and it will take a long time to restore the army of the Russian Federation, the IC summarizes.
