Why did the Armata supertank fail?

A military expert explains

The Armata tank was supposed to be the main combat vehicle of the Russian army — a striking force for breaking through enemy defenses. An unmanned turret, an armored crew capsule, a 125mm cannon, the Afganit active protection system, and the Ternovnik radio-absorbing coating. For more than ten years, propaganda emphasized the invulnerability of the tank, which was supposed to cause panic among NATO generals and soldiers.

In reality, however, problems arose during the development and production of the tank. Delivery dates were pushed back, the first public display of the tank turned into an embarrassment — the engine stalled. And after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it turned out that the tank was not ready for real combat. According to state news agencies, in the spring of 2023, "several" tanks were used by the Russian combat group "South" to see how they would perform in combat. After that, the vehicles were withdrawn from the front lines. As Vladimir Yevseyev, a military expert at the Institute of CIS Countries, will later tell journalists, the presence of the "Armata" in the SVO zone is not necessary, because it is a very expensive tank that Russia needs for "future wars."
