Independent candidate for Moscow City Duma Gleb Babich denied registration

The District Electoral Commission (DEC) refused to register independent candidate for the Moscow City Duma (Moscow City Duma) Gleb Babich. On July 17, he and his team came to challenge the rejection of signatures, but the commission refused to consider the objections and did not allow the authorized representatives to the meeting, citing the fact that this was not a meeting of the working group, but a meeting of the commission.

In total, about five objections out of more than a hundred were considered, after which the commission refused to deal with the remaining objections, Babich said .

" The commission ignored the position of more than five thousand people and did everything to prevent us from being able to protect the rights of real people ," Babich said.

During the meeting of the commission, one of its members, Anna Aleksandrova, stated that her signature was on the signature sheets, although she did not leave it. A contact close to Babich's headquarters told DOXA that this was most likely a deliberate provocation. The collector who collected this signature has been participating in political campaigns for many years and is an ideological activist. He also did not recognize Anna Aleksandrova from the video from the commission, which may indicate deliberate deception: the collector could have been given false information.

Earlier, the District Electoral Commission for District No. 33 found 8% of defective signatures in the left-wing candidate for the Moscow City Duma Gleb Babich, with the permissible 5%. This is 439 of 5,404 signatures that the politician's team submitted to the District Electoral Commission. Gleb Babich stated that he does not agree with the commission's findings, since some of the signatures were rejected for insignificant reasons, and the potential non-admission of the candidate to the elections due to the number of defective signatures is a political decision.

At the same time, Babich said that he will continue to work on local government in Moscow.

"Does this mean that everything was in vain and we should give up? Of course not! Now our team is supported not only by the residents of Tyoply Stan, but also by Konkovo. We have proven that we can unite, work together and convince. I feel responsible to everyone who supported me," the politician said.

Elections to the Moscow City Duma of the eighth convocation

• Elections to the Moscow City Duma will be held from September 6 to 8, on a single voting day.

• Based on their results, 45 deputies will be elected in single-mandate constituencies.

• To have a chance to be elected to the Moscow City Duma, candidates must overcome the “signature barrier” of five thousand ideal signatures.

• All major political parties in Russia will be represented in the elections.

• The "Headquarters of Candidates" also announced their participation in the elections, having united with the "Civil Initiative" party. They are supported by former presidential candidates of Russia Boris Nadezhdin and Ekaterina Duntsova.

• Among independent candidates, the anti-war left-wing eco-activist Gleb Babich has collected the largest number of signatures for his nomination.
