Telegram founder Pavel Durov wrote in his channel that he currently has more than a hundred biological children. The businessman decided to make his DNA publicly available so that his children could find each other.
"Fifteen years ago, a friend of mine approached me with a strange request. He said that he and his wife could not have children due to fertility problems, and asked me to donate sperm to a clinic so that they could have a child. I laughed until I fell over, until I realized that he was completely serious," Durov says.
According to him, the head of the clinic, whose name and location Durov did not specify, called his sperm "high-quality donor material" and assured him that sperm of this quality was in short supply. The doctor told the businessman that becoming a donor was his civic duty. "It sounded crazy enough to make me sign up to donate sperm," Durov added.
The Telegram founder claims that by 2024, more than 100 couples in 12 countries around the world will have been able to have a child using his donor sperm. “Moreover, many years after I stopped being a donor, at least one IVF clinic still has my frozen sperm available for anonymous use by families who want to have children,” Durov writes.
The businessman noted that at the moment he wants to open access to his DNA so that his biological children can find each other. "Of course, there is a risk, but I do not regret becoming a donor. The lack of healthy sperm is becoming an increasingly serious problem throughout the world, and I am proud to have contributed to its solution," the billionaire said.
In addition, in his post, Durov noted that he wants to “destigmatize” the concept of sperm donation and encourage more people to do so.
