A passenger train traveling along the Kazan-Adler route derailed in the Volgograd Region, RIA Novosti reported , citing the Unified Dispatch Service.
Russian Railways clarified that the train collided with a truck, resulting in eight carriages being derailed.
"On the Gremyachaya-Kotelnikovo section in the Volgograd Region, the driver of a KAMAZ truck drove onto a railroad crossing and collided with a passing passenger train No. 491 Kazan-Adler," the Russian Railways Telegram channel says. It also notes that train traffic on this section has been suspended.
Iranian Interior Ministry spokeswoman Volk added that the truck driver had been hospitalized. According to the Shot Telegram channel, he is in serious condition.
TASS, citing security forces, reports that more than 20 people were injured. According to Channel 112, the condition of three of them is assessed as serious. The injured are being evacuated to the nearest hospital. In turn, the REN TV channel, citing an unnamed source, writes that about a hundred people were injured.
There were 812 people on the train that derailed, the head of the Volgograd Region Andrey Bocharov reported . He also added that all services are working on the scene, and an operational headquarters has been set up there.
The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case due to the derailment of passenger train cars under the article on violation of traffic safety rules and transport operation, the department’s Telegram channel reported .
