The leaders of the medal offset by the middle of the fourth competitive day of Japan entered - thanks to a largely unexpected victory in the team all -around in male gymnastics, as well as the next (already third) gold in judo. The United States leads the total number of medals (20), but they only have three gold, so the Americans are not included in the first five.
