By the middle of the fifth competitive day, China came first in the medal standings of the Olympiad-over the past day the Chinese won two gold (in water jumping and in BMX-French). The United States continues to lead the total number of medals, but in the table they are only the seventh, since out of 28 American awards there are only four gold awards.
