The head of the "Voentorg" was detained in the case of theft

The head of the Russian company Voentorg was detained in the case of embezzlement on an especially large scale in the execution of contracts with the Ministry of Defense. This was reported to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, accompanying the press release by a video of the investigative actions.

The name of the head of Voentorg is not mentioned in the department, Vladimir Pavlov has been listed by the general director of the company since 2012. The company’s employees and accomplices in Moscow, North Ossetia, the Stavropol Territory and the Pskov region were also detained.

According to investigators, the suspects from 2019 to 2022 purchased products - “Army uninnesses” - through controlled organizations, after which they sold their Ministry of Defense through state contracts for about 625 million rubles. The investigation believes that the amount was overstated by 400 million.

RBC notes that Voentorg, who remains the only supplier of the “property of the clothing service” for the Russian army, is mentioned in the corruption case of the former deputy defense minister of Russia Dmitry Bulgakov. At the end of July, it became known that he was arrested due to supplies to Russian forces of low-quality food at high cost.

Corruption scandal around the Ministry of Defense

In April, Timur Ivanov, deputy defense minister, was arrested in Moscow. He was accused of receiving a bribe of more than a billion rubles from subcontractors. Ivanov did not plead guilty. In the case of Ivanov, two businessmen were also arrested - Sergey Borodin and Alexander Fomin.

On May 14, the head of the Main Directorate of the Personnel of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Yuri Kuznetsov, was detained. He is suspected of a bribe.

On May 21, the court arrested the former commander of the 58th combined arms army, Major General Ivan Popov on charges of fraud on an especially large scale. He was removed from his post in July 2023 after the report on the poor condition of the Russian army and high losses.

On May 22, the court arrested the deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin in the case of "fraud". He is suspected of receiving a bribe of 36 million rubles.

In May, the head of the Department of the Ministry of Defense was also arrested to ensure the state defense order of Vladimir Verteletsky arrested in the case of abuse of powers. According to the prosecution, his actions were damaged by the Ministry of Defense for 70 million rubles.

On July 9, it became known about the death of the head of the Department of State Examination of the Ministry of Defense of Russia Magomed Khandaev, who was in direct subordination to Timur Ivanov. The procedural actions regarding Khandaev were not reported. In recent years, he held the positions of the general director of the customer of the capital construction of the Ministry of Defense and the Main Directorate of Special Construction.
