A case of violation of the laws on "foreign agents" has been opened against former State Duma deputy from "United Russia" Magomed Gadzhiev, who was one of the co-authors of the laws currently in force in Russia, the publication "Sibirsky Express" writes about this, citing data from the Gunibsky District Court of Makhachkala.
Gadzhiev first became a State Duma deputy in 2003, and was then re-elected three more times. In 2012, he became one of the co-authors of the law on "foreign agents" and also voted for the adoption of other scandalous and repressive laws, in particular, the "Yarovaya package", which obliges telecom operators to transfer data on their clients' conversations and correspondence to the special services, and the "Dima Yakovlev law", which prohibits US citizens from adopting Russian orphans.
In 2023, the Ministry of Justice added Gadzhiev to the register of "foreign agents." The department explained this decision by the fact that "while outside the Russian Federation, in order to obtain foreign citizenship, he expressed a willingness to cooperate with foreign sources and declared his support for the Ukrainian authorities."
In May of the same year, the Dagestani branch of United Russia announced the expulsion of Gadzhiev “for actions that discredit the party.”
In February 2024, Gadzhiev was put on the wanted list in connection with the murder of the rector of the Makhachkala Institute of Theology and International Relations, Maksud Sadikov, in June 2011. The former deputy himself is outside of Russia.
