The Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria sentenced a Ukrainian to 12 years in a maximum security penal colony on charges of espionage (Article 276 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by the republic's prosecutor's office.
The name of the accused is unknown. According to information from the court file, the verdict was issued on July 15. The court retired to the deliberation room on April 15, but for some reason the hearings were postponed several times.
According to the security forces, from April to June 2022, the man was in the Kharkiv region, where he was recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine. In the Kupyansk district of the region, which was occupied at that time, he, as the prosecution claims, collected information about the movements of the Russian army.
The Ukrainian was detained in June 2023 in Nalchik, where he had lived since December 2022.
