Signal messenger blocked in Russia

In Russia, they have started blocking the secure messenger Signal, writes the publication “Important Stories”. Users of the service “Sboy.rf” and Downradar are also complaining about the messenger malfunction.

Reportedly, messages in the messenger are not received or sent when connected without using a VPN or enabling the "Bypass censorship" option.

As the Kholod correspondent was convinced, when this option, located in the “Advanced settings” in the “Privacy” section, is enabled, the messenger again receives and sends messages normally.

Signal differs from other messengers in that it uses an end-to-end encryption protocol for all chats. Thanks to this, correspondence there is protected from interception by the mobile operator.

On August 9, Kommersant reported that Russian telecom operators received a request from the Main Radio Frequency Center (GRChTs), subordinate to Roskomnadzor, to provide information about the IP addresses of the subnet and the addresses of the communication nodes to which the Russian Google Global Cache (GGC) servers are connected.

Experts interviewed by the publication suggested that the authorities needed this equipment to more effectively block or slow down YouTube traffic in Russia.
