In Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, a groundhog made his way into The Meadows and climbed into a toy machine. He was spotted by accident: when a customer was trying to fish out a stuffed animal with a hook, he noticed that the groundhog was blinking. The wild animal was named Colonel Custard and was released only two weeks later, APNews reports .
While the groundhog was sitting in the machine, the employees decided to use it as a promotional campaign for the establishment: they made T-shirts with the inscription “Respect the groundhog”, and also wanted to name one of the custard flavors after him.
The establishment's manager, Lynn Castle, says no one knows how the animal got into the toy machine.
The entire town of Hollidaysburg participated in the operation to save the groundhog. Initially, the employees of the establishment called the owners of the slot machine, but they were afraid to pull the animal out. Then people began to contact the police, and the police, in turn, contacted the Pennsylvania Wildlife Control Commission. In turn, the employees of this organization opened the machine and released the groundhog into a nearby field.
"It's a good story with a good ending," said manager Lynn Castle. "He was released and no one was bitten."
The groundhog is an important animal in the state of Pennsylvania. For example, the municipality of Punxsutawney celebrates Groundhog Day (February 2) every year, and the movie of the same name was partially filmed there, and the most famous resident is Phil the Groundhog: he is the one who “predicts” the weather every year.
