The military court sentenced two FSB colonels to nine years of imprisonment of each for receiving bribes from Catholic priests. This is written by Kommersant.
According to investigators, the employees of the Second FSB service Yevgeny Lobanov and Denis Karmans in 2023 forced representatives of the Roman Catholic Church, including the Church of St. Louis of the French in Moscow, to pay them money for "general protection in the system of arbitration vessels and state authorities." As a result, they received 19.98 million rubles.
Lobanov and pockets were found guilty under an article on a bribe (part 6 of Article 290), Karmanov was also convicted of illegal turnover of weapons (part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The defendants were deprived of the rank of colonels and fined 40 million rubles.
During the investigation, lobans and pockets pleaded guilty, but demanded to retrain their acts from bribery to less grave fraud, claiming that they only deceived priests, since in reality they could not affect judges and officials.
In the database of the capital's arbitration, you can find a dozen proceedings with the participation of the Catholic Church, however, in which affairs they might need the help of the Chekists, it remains unclear. The investigation does not disclose all the details of the case, and representatives of the defense of the defendants are still refraining from comments.
