Alain Delon has died

French actor Alain Delon has died at the age of 88. This was reported by Le Monde with reference to AFP. Delon's children informed the agency of his death. They did not specify the cause of the actor's death.

"Alain Fabien, Anoushka, Anthony and his dog Loubo announce with great sadness the passing of their father. He passed away peacefully at his home in Douchy, surrounded by his three children and his family. <...> His family kindly asks that his privacy be respected at this extremely painful moment of mourning," reads a press release published by BFM.TV.

Alain Delon was born in 1935 in the suburbs of Paris. He began acting in films in the mid-1950s. Delon is especially famous for his films In the Bright Sun, Rocco and His Brothers, The Leopard, The Black Tulip and Le Samourai. Among the directors with whom the actor has worked during his career are Luchino Visconti, Jean-Luc Godard, Jean-Pierre Melville and Michelangelo Antonioni.

Delon won the Cesar Award, the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, and the Honorary Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The actor is also a Knight of the Legion of Honor.

"Endlessly talented. A man of honor, a very strong man, a man of difficult fate. Behind that dazzling smile, if you look at him, look into his eyes, there is so much pain, so much tragedy, so much untold. He was a very good man, very kind," actress Natalya Belokhvostikova told RIA Novosti how she remembers Delon.

In 2017, Delon announced his retirement. Two years later, he suffered a stroke, after which he said he was ready to resort to euthanasia. In 2022, the actor spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the French TV channel TV5 Monde and expressed his support for Ukraine in connection with the beginning of a full-scale Russian invasion.
