Legendary heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson will hold his first professional boxing match since 2005, writes the Kommersant newspaper.
On November 15, he will meet in the ring with video blogger Jake Paul. The fight will take place in Texas at the AT&T Stadium, which seats 80,000 spectators. The fight will consist of eight rounds of two minutes each.
The fight presentation took place in New York the day before, during which there was a battle of eyes and a press conference between the fighters. Tyson and Paul jostled a bit on stage, although judging by the expressions on their faces, it was part of the show and not a manifestation of real hostility.
The crowd booed Paul, and he took the microphone and returned the favor. “Hey, New York! Shut your face, New York! Go on, boo yourself, New York! Hey, New York, you’re just like Mike Tyson – you were good 20 years ago. Fuck you, New York! You stupid democratic city!” he said from the stage.
Mike Tyson is now 58 years old. He ended his professional boxing career in 2005, and since then has only had two exhibition fights - in the last one, which took place in 2020, he met another legendary boxer - Roy Jones Jr. That fight ended in a draw. At the same time, the current fight with Paul was supposed to take place in July, but it had to be postponed. The reason was the deterioration of Tyson's health - his ulcer worsened and he could not train fully.
Jake Paul, 27, is a video blogger with over 20 million YouTube subscribers and over 27 million Instagram followers. He has previously won several boxing fights against famous mixed martial artists and UFC stars such as Nate Diaz, Mike Perry and Anderson Silva.
The Tyson-Paul fight will be shown on one of the world's largest streaming services, Netflix, whose number of users exceeded 260 million people by the end of 2023. Paul will reportedly receive $40 million if he wins, and Tyson should be paid at least $20 million for participating.
