Media: Russia will not transfer troops from Donbass to Kursk region

The Russian Defense Ministry has decided not to transfer troops from Donbass to defend the Kursk region, where the Russian army and the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been fighting since August 6. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing an anonymous source close to the Kremlin.

The agency notes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive on Russian territory was the first time since World War II that Russian territory came under the control of another state. The Ukrainian army's attack, as Bloomberg writes, took the Kremlin by surprise and forced tens of thousands of people in the region to flee their homes.

At the same time, according to the agency, Russian troops in Ukraine are gradually advancing in the Donetsk region towards Pokrovsk, an important logistical hub for Ukrainian forces. Local authorities this week gave the order to evacuate civilians from the city.

"Pressure along the entire front line in Ukraine will continue. Troops will not be transferred from there to the Kursk region," said Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine.

Bloomberg notes that some Russian forces withdrew from Ukraine after the invasion of Kursk, but the Institute for the Study of War says these were not front-line troops. “The Kremlin may be in no hurry to push Ukrainian forces out of the region and will instead continue to prioritize its offensive operations in eastern Ukraine,” the Institute’s report says.

According to independent military analyst Yan Matveyev, Russia will need 40,000 to 50,000 troops to recapture the territories in the Kursk region seized by Ukraine. An unnamed Bloomberg source claims that conscripts may be used in military operations.

Earlier, the human rights project "Go to the forest" reported on the mass dispatch of conscripts to the Kursk region. It also became known about the dispatch of "space infantry" of the Aerospace Forces (VKS) to the region, and the head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairsstated that Russia transferred troops from Kaliningrad to the Kursk region.
