Yakut official not sent to prison for threats and beatings of his ex-girlfriend

The court found Yegor Mikhailov, deputy head of the village of Verkhnevilyuysk in Yakutia, guilty of threatening to kill and beating his ex-girlfriend Maria and sentenced him to a restriction of freedom and a fine of 15 thousand rubles. This was reported by the publication "7x7" with reference to the human rights project "You are not alone, Yakutia is with you."

The foundation's social media reported that a criminal case was opened against Mikhailov under the article on the threat of murder or causing serious bodily harm (Article 119 of the Criminal Code), and an administrative protocol was also drawn up under the article on battery or other violent actions that caused physical pain, but did not entail the consequences specified in the criminal article on causing minor bodily harm.

According to Article 119 of the Criminal Code, the accused may face , in particular, up to two years of imprisonment or arrest for up to six months, but the court did not send Mikhailov to a penal colony and only prohibited him from leaving his home at night and from traveling outside the district.

In July of this year, Maria accused Mikhailov of beating and attempted rape. According to the woman, Mikhailov, in a state of alcoholic intoxication, beat her and bit her lip. Maria documented the beatings and went to the police, who accepted her statement on the third try after a complaint to the prosecutor's office. After this, the woman began receiving threats from unknown people, and Mikhailov accused her of slander.

"After I filed a police report, he called me at night with threats. He said he would kill and 'eat' me if he was fired from his job," Maria said. The 7x7 publication reported that Mikhailov continued working in the village administration.

After the criminal case was opened, the project “You are not alone, Yakutia is with you” opened a fundraiser for a defense attorney for Maria, but not a single lawyer agreed to take on her case.
