Britons seek partners for suicide

More than 700 people in the UK have posted messages on a suicide-promoting website asking for a partner to commit suicide with, the BBC reports .

The publication does not disclose the name of the site, but claims that it has a members-only section where users can search for a suicide partner. Members post information about their age, gender, location and preferred method of death in search of someone to die with them.

The BBC found that several double suicides were linked to this “affiliate network.” In 2019, 28-year-old Brett traveled from England to Scotland to meet a girl from the forum. The couple rented an Airbnb and committed suicide.

Brett's mother compares suicide partner site to 'dark version' of dating app. 'Where else are you going to find a partner to kill yourself with? It's just disgusting,' she says.

The BBC writes that the site also publishes calls for suicide and instructions on how to do it. The publication counted more than five thousand messages on this topic. The BBC investigation also showed that at least 130 Britons may have committed suicide after using a chemical substance advertised on the site.

The publication also notes that criminals may use the site "to prey on vulnerable and suicidal people, especially women." One forum member from Scotland was sentenced to life imprisonment after offering "advice and help" to suicidal women.

According to the BBC, one of the main moderators is a woman living in the west of England. The publication does not disclose her name.
