The interior of the Sushkin sЫn restaurant chain offended the religious feelings of nationalists

Following a denunciation by activists of the nationalist movement "Russian Community", the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against the owners of the Samara restaurant chain "Sushkin sЫn" for insulting religious feelings. This was reported on the agency's Telegram channel.

The report notes that the businessmen used “religious symbols and associations in the names and interior design of establishments, thereby violating the moral, ethical and ethical standards of believers.”

The Russian Community published a public denunciation on its Telegram channel, tagging the head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, acting Samara Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, and State Duma deputy from the Samara Region Alexander Khinshtein. The activists attached screenshots from the restaurant chain's website, which show that at least one establishment uses a portrait in its design that reminds the denunciators of the image of Jesus Christ's mother. In their opinion, the reference in the name "Sushkin sЫn" to the expression "son of a bitch" is unacceptable, "and the use of the Image of the Mother of God and Christian symbols raises the problem to a new, more dangerous level."

The governor did not respond publicly to the appeal. Deputy Khinshtein supported the denunciation, called the "face of the Virgin Mary" the main element of the restaurants' design and added that to complete the picture "all that is missing is an image of Christ himself", perhaps "right on the signboard". According to the deputy, the prosecutor's office has begun an investigation into the actions of the establishment owners.

Alexander Bastrykin instructed the Samara Investigative Committee to report to him on the results of the investigation. Under the article on "violation of the right to freedom of conscience and religion," restaurant owners face up to a year in prison and a fine of up to two years' revenue.

The chain consists of two establishments, in Samara and Tolyatti, and belongs to Aram Group, a small restaurant holding of businessman Aram Petrosyan.

On the evening of the day the case was opened, August 29, the Aram Group website stopped working, closing with a “Under development” sign. Local media write that both “Sushkin sЫn” restaurants took down their signs and closed for at least a day for a “special event.”

Last year, Khinshtein succeeded in dismantling the sign of the Samara restaurant "Zhuy". The deputy thought that the first letter of the name could be read differently. In May, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against the organizer of a BDSM party in the Yekaterinburg officers' club under the article on insulting the feelings of believers.
